Posted by dbock1 on March 20, 2022 at 12:00 AM

The Sun's activity has been increasing for some time, so I've setup my Celestron 6" f/10 SCT with a white light solar filter.

Here is a couple of images from two days. February 8th and 9th. 2022

November 6-7, 2021 Comet run

Posted by dbock1 on November 8, 2021 at 9:35 AM

The night of November 6th, I setup a run to acquire data of 6 different comets throughout the night. This required staggering the run so that the objects were up far enough to move to the next one during the night.

The comet list was as follows but not necessarily in this order

  • Comet 4P (FAYE)
  • Comet 29P Schwassmann-Wachmann
  • Comet 67P Churyumov-Gerasimenko
  • Comet C-2021 A1 (Leonard)
  • Comet L3 (ATLAS)
  • Comet_132P_Helin_Roman_Alu
I took 5 minute subs on each object, ranging from 12 to 24 frames

Comet C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE) - July 23, 2020

Posted by dbock1 on August 1, 2020 at 12:05 AM

While at the Boon Hill Observatory I setup to take images of Comet C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE)

Data taken on 7/23, 2020

Location: Boon Hill Observatory

Processed 7/26, 2020. First stack of 9 x 90 second frames (cropped)

Stacked on the core only so there are trailing stars.

No darks, so there is a lot of noise.

Canon T3i, 75mm @ f/4.5, ISO 1600, 90 second subs

Asteroid 162082 1998 HL1 on October 25 2019

Posted by dbock1 on October 29, 2019 at 9:40 AM

On October 25, 2019 I imaged asteroid 162082 1998 HL1 for about two hours.

This was through high cirrus clouds. I've made a video of the event.

Segment 1 is the Asteroid 162082 1998 HL1, segment 2 is the sky I was shooting through.

Segment one: 10" f/8 RC, ZWO asi071mc PRO camera cooled to -5C, 30 second frames at gain 500.

Segment two: Canon T3i w/10mm lens at f/5.6, 30 second frames at ISO 1600.
